I need a lawyer

I have been really bad about updating regularly, as I previously commited to. I would like to point out, in my defence, that I dent fairly often, and tweet more often still. If you want to keep up with me follow me on those services. I would recommend that you follow me on identi.ca if you have accounts on both, and my dents forward to twitter, but I also have semi-spammy SpyMaster updates and all sorts of other stuff that isn’t worth following on my twitter feed. My dents also forward to my Facebook profile, if you are my friend there or wish to be.

Anyway, the kids aren’t with us any more. A couple of weeks ago, they went over to their dad’s for his weekend with them. Instead of bringing them back, we were delivered a paper from his lawyer that he is fighting for custody of them. We went to a preliminary hearing, where we were told that until the courts can hear our case he will be keeping them. The wife and I are obviously hiring a lawyer, as we feel that we are the best thing for them. At the very least want visitation so we can get to see them.

The problem is that I make too much money to use Legal Aid or any of the other financial assistance legal services I have found, but do not make enough to hire any of the lawyers we have talked too. Does anyone know a good family lawyer around Ft. Worth, Texas, who would work on a sliding scale or pro bono?

So long, last.fm!

I have had an account with last.fm for a while now and have always liked the service.

I just said goodbye to them.

Last.fm is a music tracking service. After you create an account, you can install a scrobbler. This is a small program that tells their site what music you are listening to as you listen to it. They keep track of what you like, and can recommend music that you may like based on what you have already listened to. They also have streaming radio stations of music that you may like, or that your friends are listening to. In short, they let you find stuff to listen to that you otherwise might not have heard of.

Self Censorship

I have been starting to realize one of the problems of social networking. Until recently, I hadn’t gotten into social networking, as I don’t have many friends to follow, or who would follow me, and it made me feel a bit like a loser. However, after finally catching the point — to make friends — I now have accounts at MySpace, Facebook, Identi.ca, Twitter (which I don’t really use… Identi.ca cross-posts there for me auto-magically), and a few other sites. In addition, I have the Glue add-on for Firefox. Glue is awesome enough that I am going to have to write an entire entry detailing it. For now, though, I would just recommend you install it.

The problem, however, is that some of my friends are coworkers. I have never had an issue complaining about work, but as I am a supervisor, I now have to be careful about what I say. While none of my online friends so far are people I have had issues with, I don’t know who will find me through them. And if I post the wrong thing, I’m sure I could wind up in quite a bit of trouble. I have always censored myself to some degree, watching what I say about my family and friends, at least the ones that knew where my site is. I have made exceptions a few times, and I have always wound up regretting it. However, I have always felt free to complain about my job, and now I feel like that is another area I have to watch what I say in.

Catching up

I know I haven’t posted in almost two years… it has been a busy two years. I am going to try to get into a schedule of posting at least twice a week from now on… if a week goes by without at least a post feel free to email me and demand that I write something!

I have switched my blog from TextPattern over to WordPress. I like TxP but WP 2.7 was just too sweet to pass over. I changed my theme in the process, but may port my LCARS theme over to WP at some point in the future. We’ll see.

Things with the wife are going well. We had some issues early in our marriage, but I think all married people do. We’ve gotten past that though. Yay!

I am not working at Home Depot anymore… I haven’t since June of 2007. Since August of 2007 I have been working at WalMart. I am an instock supervisor there now, which means that I am in charge of the people who unload trucks and stock the shelves. It has it’s challenges but overall it is a job that I do quite well (I am told) and enjoy most days.

I haven’t had an internet connection for the last two years, other than on a crappy cell phone, and am finally getting involved in some of the sites I have been reading about. You can now find me on identica, last.fm, twitter, facebook, and myspace (which is really retweets of my identica posts). I don’t have much under any of these accounts as they are all fairly new but if you want to follow me, feel free.

For Christmas my wife got me a new laptop. It is a low-end Compaq, but is the first new computer I have ever owned, and after installing Ubuntu on it, I have had no problems with its speed. It is nice being able to click the Firefox logo and have the window open without having time for a coffee break. I still don’t have internet (because I refuse to do business with the only company that provides broadband in my area) but am stealing borrowing my neighbor’s wifi.

Hopefully I will remember to use that borrowed wifi to post another entry within the next few days.
