New apartment

I was really going to keep my blog updated. Really.

But instead I got carried away sending updates to identi.ca. I put the small things in there as they happen, and since most of my blog entries are a bunch of small things put together that kills most of the point of posting.

Sorry.

However, I have something large enough to be worth an entire entry… the wife and I moved! We are now living in Saginaw, not too far from where I work. Her sister had been living with us, and sharing a car with us. We lived 18 kilometers from work, and since we both work in the same building, but different shifts, this wound up being two or three round trips a day. Needless to say, gas was financially killing us. She got her own apartment a couple of weeks ago, walking distance from work. The wife and I got our own apartment a week later (last Friday) 5 km away. We are still in the precess of getting all our crap moved over here (we drive a Kia Rio and can’t afford a moving truck yet) and are surrounded by boxen, but we love it.

Tons of funds

I have been made the captain of the employee committee at work, which means that I am in charge of deciding how we should spend our (considerable) employee fund. Last year nearly all of it went to our Christmas party (which I plan on calling our Kwanzaa party this year) but I think we could do more with it. So does John, which is why he put me in charge of it (officially, at least.)

A week in garden

I guess it is time for my monthly entry.

For those who don’t keep up, I work at the Home Depot in Keller. I spent almost four months as a lot loader, which was 90% cart pushing and loading heavy stuff for customers who were unable (or, in the case of some pricks, unwilling) to do it for themselves. (You fuck-heads know who you are) Now I am a garden consultant (with a state nursery certification!) Not that is is that different. I still help people load mulch and soil and the such, and still push carts when the lot guys can’t keep up (daily) but I now enjoy going to work almost.

Jennifer and I finally gave her mother the boot. Our lease had been paid up to the beginning of this month by my mother, and I told her mom that when we started paying rent, she would need to help out. It was due March 1, and ( surprise ) she left about Feb 26 and we didn’t see her again until March 5 or 6. So we told her that she needed to get out. Her stuff is still littering our apartment, and she comes by almost daily to change and drop more shit off before and after work, but at least my wife and I can walk around the house naked at night the way God intended.

-Made a few behind the scenes changes to my site, the most noticeable being AJAX-enabled search (site-wide) and archives by month archives page- I considered switching over to WordPress for a while, but wound up deciding that it was too much of a pain in the ass to customize templates, and it would take a solid weekend of not leaving the computer to clean up the TXP import and make sure all my data was still there. I believe that I will be running TxP for quite some time.

Garden

I am doing well working at the Home Depot. I have passed my 90 day mark, and all my benefits have kicked in. And while I am currently working as a lot loader (cart jockey) next week I transfer to the garden department. I know quite a bit about it since I used to be the garden department manager at Kmart. I am hoping to be a head cashier at least by the end of my first year with the company.

Jennifer and I are discussing moving sometime soon, although we have different (opposite) reasons for wanting to move. Her mother-in-law is still with us, and while I am of the opinion that the woman is like a cockroach infestation that is best cured by moving away from it altogether, Jennifer wants to get a larger apartment so that her mother can have more space to fill with her crap. Of course I am going to puss out with Jenna and go along with her plan, but I am sure as hell not going to like it.

Jennifer told me at one point that her bartender told her that most of the sob stories she hears are couples that just got married and then had a parent come stay with them (or stayed with a parent) and it wound up leading to divorce. I am not going to leave Jennifer over her mother but I understand quite well how someone else could do so.

At least I have OS X working again.

I am quite happily married. I love my wife more than anything. The one and only problem I have with marriage is my mother-in-law.

Yes, that mother-in-law.

About a week after our wedding she came to stay with us overnight, so she could go to a shelter the next morning. That was early November and she is still here.

We got a notice from the apartment manager on our door that she needed to leave or we would get in serious trouble a couple of weeks ago. We told her she needed to find somewhere else, and every day she tells us she needs “one more day”.

She doesn’t contribute (well, she has bought us fast food a couple of times with the welfare money she gets to buy diapers with for the baby she hasn’t seen in three weeks). She doesn’t work (and hasn’t held a job for over a week in two years). She doesn’t respect our house rules. And she won’t leave.
